Sustainability

Shaping sustainability through design

The environmental impact of what we build is considered and analysed from in every stage from strategy to production. That’s how we deliver long-lasting, high-quality solutions that are efficient to manufacture and have a lower impact on people and the planet.

Up to 80% of a product’s impact is defined at the design stage.

We make that count by combining creativity, technical insight and experience to enable design decisions with impact. By integrating design and engineering with lifecycle insights, we can make informed choices that support sustainability, feasibility and long-term value.

No one-size-fits-all solutions

We tailor our approach to create measurable impact in the most relevant way for each project. Together with our clients we establish a sustainability strategy for every aspect of a product and its potential impact on everything from supply chains to end users. Whether it’s with circular materials, renewable energy or eliminating single-use plastic, we help our clients reduce their impact across the full product lifecycle.

Eliminating single-use plastics

We helped Kraft Heinz phase out disposable plastic packaging by making a long-lasting sauce dispenser system.
Thanks to detailed engineering and robust materials, the patented dispenser offers high-performance over a long period of time, while reducing waste and environmental impact.

Energy-efficient urban infrastructure

To reveal which parts of a product’s lifecycle will have the most environmental impact we offer clients a lifecycle scan. This data-driven process identifies design interventions that can be made to improve sustainability. For Leiden Council, we designed durable, low-impact solar-powered bus shelters that cut carbon footprint by 70% and generate their own energy.

Closing the loop with sustainable materials

Be by Bèta is built from recycled materials, monomaterials and designed for disassembly and take-back. The patented adjustment mechanism — using fewer components and 100% recycled plastic — minimizes waste. The result: a low MKI/LCA score and residual value at the end of its life. Circularity as both a technical and economic advantage.
